What is VIVOS®?
VIVOS is a scientifically based oral appliance-based therapy that addresses the underlying physiological cause of most sleep problems, a narrowed or blocked airway. The concepts of epigenetics and pneumopedics™ serve as the basis of the VIVOS approach which strives to support the field of dentistry in its effort to treat sleep and breathing abnormalities.
As a VIVOS dentist, Dr. Handa is able to use advanced techniques when treating sleep apnea, UARS and sleep disorders in adults and children that are non-invasive.
What is epigenetics?
Epigenetics is the study of natural and environmental factors affecting the expression of genes. VIVOS focuses on the craniofacial genes and is active in studies and research regarding this field and how it relates to airway problems.
What is pneumopedics™?:
Non-surgical airway remodeling, or pneumopedics is the foundation of VIVOS therapies. The science of pneumopedics enables patients to achieve improved breathing, better sleep and quality of life without surgery.
VIVOS FAQs
Is VIVOS painful?
The VIVOS appliance is comfortable to wear because it is custom-made. VIVOS can address painful symptoms that often accompany sleep apnea, including headaches. The VIVOS appliance is also less invasive than alternatives like CPAP machines, which are uncomfortable to wear.
How long will it take to see results with VIVOS?
Every patient is different. You can see results with the VIVOS system within days or weeks of beginning treatment. Alternatively, depending on your symptoms, you may see results after a month or two of treatment.
Does VIVOS treat snoring?
Yes, VIVOS can address snoring. Because this device opens up the airway, it can help lessen or eliminate snoring. While snoring is not always a sign of sleep apnea, snoring can often accompany sleep apnea.
How much is the VIVOS appliance?
The cost of your VIVOS appliance will depend on your treatment plan and insurance coverage. After a consultation in our office, we will provide you with an estimated cost of the VIVOS appliance.
Can children receive a VIVOS appliance?
VIVOS is a safe treatment option for children with sleep apnea. Because VIVOS appliances are custom-made, we can create VIVOS appliances for pediatric patients. VIVOS appliances can also help prevent the reoccurrence of sleep apnea in children later in life.
How do you clean the VIVOS appliance?
Keeping the VIVOS appliance clean can prevent bacterial buildup. Clean your VIVOS appliance using a soft-bristled brush and mild soap. Toothpaste can contain abrasives that may damage the appliance. Do not use hot water; brush using lukewarm water instead to prevent damage to the appliance. Additionally, you should not use a mouthguard or denture cleaner to soak the VIVOS appliance.
