Restorative Dental Solutions in Acton

Dental Crowns

If you have discolored or worn teeth, you can benefit from dental crowns in Acton. Also known as dental caps, dental crowns cover teeth and dental restorations. Dental crowns may be color-matched to teeth because they are made of porcelain ceramic. Inlays and onlays are also used to help restore the biting surface of teeth.

A more general composite or white dental filling repairs cracked, fractured, and otherwise damaged teeth. Dental crowns are the most permanent solution and can last up to 30 years with the right oral health treatment.

Dental Implants

If you have one or more missing teeth and want a fuller and more functional smile, try dental implants in Acton. Dr. Handa offers dental implants along with other restorative treatments. Consisting of a titanium post, abutment, and dental crown, dental implants are a secure and durable treatment option for patients.

Dental implants can also be used to secure dental bridges or dentures, which replace multiple consecutive teeth or whole arches of teeth. Replacing missing teeth with one or more dental implants can also prevent several problems down the road such as receding gums, shifting teeth, tooth decay, overcrowding, and further bone loss.

Dentures & Partials

Complete or full dentures are used to replace most or all of a patient’s teeth. An advantage of this option is that patients have teeth during the healing period as a temporary denture is crafted. Conventional dentures can then be made once the tissues have healed after six to eight weeks.

A removable denture is an option that fits over several remaining natural teeth or dental implants for a more secure solution. Partial dentures fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and are a great option for patients who have several missing teeth but have some natural teeth remaining.

Patients who receive full or partial dentures may note that it is easier to bite and chew. Dentures improve the form and function of teeth and gums.

Restorative Dentistry FAQs

How long do crowns last?

Dental crowns last between 10-30 years. There are various factors that contribute to determining a crown’s life. Good oral hygiene and wearing a mouthguard at night can lengthen a crowns lifespan.

What should I do if I have a cracked tooth?

If you have a cracked or broken tooth the best thing to do is to is visit our office as soon as possible. We will assess the damage and determine a course of treatment that will best meet your needs. This may involve a dental crown, tooth bonding, or in more severe cases extraction and an implant supported restoration.

How long does it take to create and place a crown?

The process for getting a crown involves two visits to our office. During the first appointment we will prepare the tooth and take impressions to create the crown. Impressions will be sent to a dental lab where the crown is fabricated to match the exact color, shape and size of your natural teeth. Once the crown has been created you will come back to our office so that we can place it. We will bond the crown to surrounding teeth and polish to finish. The entire process typically takes about three weeks in total.

What should I do if I think I have a cavity?

If you are noticing pain in a specific tooth, sensitivity to hot and cold, discoloration, or holes call your dentist and schedule an appointment. From there your dentist will likely want to schedule an appointment in the near future to fill your cavity.

What are my options for a broken or missing tooth?

The available options for a broken or missing tooth are dental crowns, dental implants and full and partial dentures. If you are experiencing a broken or missing tooth contact your dentist to discuss best options for your individual treatment.

What is the difference between restorative and cosmetic dentistry?

Restorative dentistry manages functional issues and pain among teeth. It attempts to restore teeth and improve any mouth functioning and reduce or eliminate tooth pain. Some of the common operations of restorative dentistry include Inlays, Onlays, veneers, crowns, dentures, bridges, and fillings.

Cosmetic dentistry deal with esthetic issues. They have the same training as general dentists with some supplemental training and education. They may have a different approach to completing a filling than a restorative dentist, but both should be able to fill a cavity properly.
