Invisalign® for Teens

  • Learn About Invisalign® For Teens

Invisalign® For Teens

Don’t let metal wires and brackets hold your teen back from enjoying all the things they want to do. With Invisalign Teen®, they’ll never miss a moment. When worn according to the recommendations of an experienced Invisalign-trained dentist, Invisalign Teen® can be as effective as traditional braces for the most common teeth-straightening issues. Invisalign can effectively treat mild to severe cases, including underbite, overbite, overcrowding and gaps between teeth.

If you’ve had braces yourself, you already know the issues associated with metal wires and brackets. With Invisalign, the aligners are removable, so your teen can play sports without the worry of being hit in the mouth by a ball, which can cause real damage in braces. They can also continue playing musical instruments properly, without braces getting in the way. With braces, there is a long list of foods your teen shouldn’t eat, from popcorn to apples and raw carrots. With Invisalign, there are no such restrictions. The removable aligners make it easy to brush and floss normally to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Invisalign® vs Braces

Braces

Traditional metal braces are probably what you think of when orthodontic treatment comes to mind. This form of orthodontic treatment has been the standard because it provides for an efficient process. Some of the reasons why you might want to consider (or not consider) braces include the following:

Pros of Braces

  • It is an effective and proven treatment method.
  • They are made of stainless steel, making them very durable.
  • You don’t have to worry about losing them or not wearing them enough.
  • Braces are the optimal choice for more complicated orthodontic problems.

Cons of Braces

  • Braces allow for more places in your mouth for food to get trapped and cause tooth decay or gum disease.
  • When you wear braces, there are foods you should avoid; specifically foods that are hard and foods that are sticky.
  • Brushing and flossing will take longer due to having to brush and floss around the braces’ wires.
  • Since braces are made of metal, they may cause discomfort.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® is known as the alternative to braces. Instead of using metal wires and brackets to shift your teeth, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligner trays. These aligners are meant to be worn in a designated order. Your teen will wear the first set for two weeks and after that, they’ll move onto the next set. As your teen continues this process, their teeth will gradually begin shifting and once they reach the last set of aligners, they will have a beautiful smile and self-confidence to show that smile every day.

Pros of Invisalign

  • The aligners are clear, making Invisalign a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment process.
  • Invisalign® aligners are removable. This is huge if you play sports or a musical instrument. With braces, it’s hard to perform at your best knowing you could get hit in the mouth with a ball, or cut your lip trying to hit that note on the trumpet.
  • You can eat whatever you want whenever you want. Since you remove the aligners before eating; there are no restrictions and no worrying about possibly breaking anything.
  • Cleaning your teeth is as simple as it has always been. There is no special toothbrush or floss needed.
  • You can remove the aligners in Invisalign whenever you want just as long as you wear them for about 22 hours a day.
  • The plastic in the aligners allow for a more comfortable orthodontic treatment.

Cons of Invisalign

  • The aligners need to be brushed daily to prevent food or anything acidic from getting trapped inside your aligners and pressing against your teeth for prolonged periods of time.
  • The treatment won’t work unless you wear it for 20-22 hours a day.
  • Invisalign doesn’t always work on more complicated orthodontic problems.

The chances are very high that your teen will be a great candidate for Invisalign®. To find out for sure, contact us or give us a call at 978.635.9995 to schedule your initial Invisalign® consultation. We’re looking forward to putting your teen on the path toward a straighter and healthier smile!
